SPOKANE – On Monday, January 24, 2022 at just after 6:00 a.m., Officers with the Spokane Police Department responded to the 6900 block of N Division St for reports of a robbery/kidnapping incident. A female caller indicated to dispatch that an unknown male had entered her vehicle armed with a knife. The victim stated she had managed to get away from the suspect, but her vehicle and the suspect were still in the area.
SPD officers arrived a short time later and located the victim, the victim’s vehicle, and the suspect, who was still inside the victim’s vehicle. While investigating further, officers learned that several hours earlier the unknown male entered the victim’s car when she stopped at a store in North Spokane. The male had allegedly brandished a knife and made the victim drive him to various locations over the course of the next several hours. During the incident the suspect threatened to harm the victim and struck her.
SPD officers then attempted to detain the suspect, who was identified as 43-year-old Ivory Washington. Washington was initially not cooperative and refused to exit the victim’s vehicle, but after a brief standoff he was taken into custody.
Washington was arrested and booked into Spokane County Jail for assault, robbery 1st degree, and kidnapping 2nd degree.
According to a release from the SPD, the victim was fortunately not seriously injured.
